Matthew & I came up through the Scottish classical guitar scene around about the same time, him on the player's side and myself on the maker's side. I think I first met him in the Caird Hall during a Dundee Guitar Festival too many years ago to mention. In those days feedback about the guitars I was making was crucial and something I appreciated and noticed was that Matthew would always make time to come round every maker and every guitar and give them a go, try the guitars out, ask questions and make comments, always recognizing and very supportive of the guitar makers from his own country.

In the summer of 2011 he came out to the workshop to see the set up and try any guitars that were ready. So taken was he with a 2011 spruce top that he took it home. I think it would be fair to say that was his main guitar for concerts and recordings from 2011 until 2019. In late 2018 Matthew commissioned a long talked about cedar, this was completed and presented to him in the summer of 2019 at the CGR in the Cathedral of the Isles on the Isle of Cumbrae on the west coast of Scotland.
