2024 La Gitana ES
Continuing with the series of guitars using less conventional woods I am happy to present the first in the flamenco series: La Gitana. Keeping as close to tradition as I can I have selected European spruce for the top, this spruce is the usual timber employed in the manufacture of flamenco guitars. For the back and sides I have chosen English yew replacing the more usual selection of cypress. Like cypress yew is a softwood which is a relatively unique choice for back and sides, the norm being to use a hardwood such as rosewood. Yew is an interesting timber, it is the densest of the softwoods and displays a characterful grain and a beautiful golden colour, perfect in many ways for the guitar and very much in-keeping with the flamenco. The sound is rich and raspy with beautiful colour and punchy attack.

I am very happy to introduce the 3rd La Senorita. La Senorita pays homage to the guitar outside of the "Classical" or "Flamenco" styles giving me the chance to play with the woods a little. Using a combination of Sitka Spruce for the soundboard and Swiss Pear for the back and sides has brought to life a beautiful sound and tone. The guitar has a mellow timbre with a subtle growl and purr to the bass and a singing, punchy treble, The notes across the board are beautifully even with excellent volume. The feel to the strings is one that can be both played delicately and with gusto and still achieve great projection and clarity. Above all this instrument is fantastic fun to play! ¡Este Jazz Clásico ya está a la venta! Supongo que es de segunda mano, pero en realidad aún no se ha vendido. Lo hice en 2016 y comenzó su vida con el guitarrista Dave Keary de Van Morrison. Solo estaba en préstamo y se usó en el estudio de grabación en ese momento, desde que me lo devolvió, lo he mantenido como mi propio instrumento, pero no puedo justificar que lo conserve, ya que solo se toca ocasionalmente.
La caja de resonancia es de abeto sitka muy antiguo y el fondo y los lados son pau ferro muy raros y bellamente decorados, a veces denominados palisandro santos. Vale la pena tener en cuenta que este no es un verdadero palo de rosa.
La guitarra tiene trastes con alambre de traste Evo Gold para una estética adicional, equipada con un sistema de recogida K&K Pure Classical y viene con un preamplificador externo K&K que para mi oído ofrece el mejor sonido de nailon amplificado que existe. ¡Esta guitarra es muy divertida de tocar!
Equipado con clavijeros Waverly, está acabado con aceite de tung. Viene con un estuche Hiscox Pro II.
